WT Celebrating Black History Month With Events on Campus

February is Black History Month, and West Texas A&M University is celebrating with three events coming up. 

The Black Student Union is hosting three events along with WT’s Office for Diversity and Inclusion, Hispanic Student Association, and Residence Hall Association. 

On the 17th, starting at 6 pm there is an open mic night in the Legends Club in the Jack B Kelley Student Center where students will have 3 to 5 minutes to perform.

The 2019 film “Just Mercy,” will be shown at 6:30 pm in the Alumni Banquet Hall on the 23rd.

The film stars Michael B. Jordan working as a defense attorney fighting against the death penalty. 

Following that on the 24th, four prominent Black Amarillo residents will speak in Legacy Hall at 6 pm at the “Homegrown Excellence” event. 

Speakers will include Melodie Graves from Amarillo College, Chris Jackson at the Panhandle Region Planning Commission, Earl Stoudemire, a reporter from News Channel 10, and Claudia Stuart, WT professor emeritus and author.
