Monday Sports Update – Rangers Shut Out Brewers

(Milwaukee, WI) — Mike Minor allowed four hits, struck out 11 over eight innings as the Rangers shut out the Brewers 1-0 in Milwaukee. José Leclerc pitched a spotless ninth for his eighth save. Isiah Kiner-Falefa’s sacrifice fly scored Willie Calhoun in the seventh for the run. Texas snapped a four-game skid.

Rangers Continue Trip North Of Border

Orioles Snap Astros’ Eight-Game Winning Streak

(Baltimore, MD) — Rio Ruiz blasted a two-run walk-off homer for the Orioles to beat the Astros 8-7 in Baltimore, ending Houston’s eight-game winning streak. Roberto Osuna took the loss. Starter Justin Verlander gave up four runs on nine hits, while striking out 11 over five innings in a no-decision. Michael Brantley hit a two-run triple and scored on a throwing error in the ninth to give Houston a short-lived 7-5 lead. Carlos Correa hit a three-run homer in defeat.

Astros Face White Sox Tonight

(Chicago, IL) — Zack Greinke will make his second Astros’ start tonight against the White Sox in Chicago to open a three-game series. Dylan Cease will start for the White Sox.

Soddies Swept In Frisco

(Frisco, Texas) – The Sod Poodles dropped their road trip finale 6-0 to the Frisco RoughRiders at Dr. Pepper Ballpark on Sunday evening. Amarillo dropped all four games of their four-game set after beginning the road trip with a three-game sweep at Midland. The Sod Poodles return home to HODGETOWN for the start of a seven-game home stand tonight. First pitch is at 7:05 p.m. as they welcome the Midland RockHounds to downtown Amarillo for the start of a four-game series.

Prescott Sharp In Cowboys’ Preseason Opener

(Santa Clara, CA) — Dak Prescott completed all four of his pass attempts, caught a pass for a yard loss and directed the Cowboys to a field goal in his only drive in the Cowboys’ 17-9 loss to the 49ers in their preseason opener on Saturday in Santa Clara. Brett Maher kicked three field goals for all the Dallas points. Undrafted rookies linebacker Luke Gifford suffered a significant high ankle sprain.

(Oxnard, CA) — The Cowboys are back on the practice field today as they break camp Thursday in Oxnard. The Cowboys will play the Rams this coming Saturday in Hawaii in their second preseason game.

Texans Preparing For Lions

(Houston, TX) — Texans quarterback Deshaun Watson threw a touchdown pass to Make-A-Wish guest Ethan Hughes, a 17-year-old diagnosed with leukemia, in practice. Hughes joined Watson at the podium for his post-practice press conference. The Texans were in full pads for the second straight day as they prepare for a Saturday game with the Lions in Houston. Bradley Roby made an interception to highlight the defense. Wide receiver DeAndre Carter practiced for the second straight day after being removed from the physically unable to perform list.

Kevin Harvick Wins NASCAR At Michigan

(Brooklyn, MI) — Kevin Harvick is going home with his second win of the NASCAR season. Harvick had enough fuel to hold on for the win at the Consumers Energy 400 at Michigan International Speedway. Denny Hamlin finished second while Kyle Larson placed third. Martin Truex Junior and Daniel Suarez rounded out the top five. Kyle Busch finished just outside the top five in sixth. After the race, Harvick celebrated by taking his son for a ride in his car and doing a burnout.

Reed Wins The Northern Trust

(Jersey City, NJ) — Patrick Reed carded a two-under 69 in Sunday’s final round to win The Northern Trust in Jersey City by one stroke. Reed finished at 16-under-par for the tournament to earn his first PGA Tour win since the 2018 Masters. Abraham Ancer was second at 15-under, while Jon Rahm and Harold Varner the Third tied for third at minus-15.

WT Football Announces Fall Practice Schedule

(Canyon, Texas) – West Texas A&M Head Football Coach Hunter Hughes announced today that the Buffs will open their 2019 fall camp on Tuesday, Aug. 13, with a 1 p.m. practice. With school beginning on Aug. 26, practices will switch to 8 a.m. for the remainder of the season and subject to change. The Buffs open their 2019 season Sept. 7 when they host Azusa Pacific at 6 p.m. in the inaugural game at Buffalo Stadium.

TCU QB Right Foot In Medical Boot

(Fort Worth, TX) — TCU quarterback Mike Collins wore a medical boot on his right foot during the team’s first fall scrimmage on Saturday. Frogs head coach Gary Patterson said it is too early to know the extent of the injury. That is the same foot Collins hurt to cut short his 2018 season. Kansas State transfer Alex Delton is getting most of the reps with the first team in Collins’ absence.
