Construction on six bridges on I-40 East in Amarillo is 93 percent complete.
The last things that need to be done are turnarounds, median barriers, and adequate lighting.
The bridges being restructured by the Texas Department of Transportation are at Pullman, Whitaker, and Lakeside.
Once the upgrades are made TxDOT expects to work to be done by December at the latest.
TxDOT’s Sonia Gross says the bridges will be taller to accommodate passing through town trucks with higher clearance.
The I-40 West construction includes bridge deck replacement and repair, metal beam guard fence, and striping between Coulter and Georgia Street bridges, and that portion of the work should be complete in the spring of 2022.
