Friday Sports Update – Sod Poodles And Drillers Continue Series

The Amarillo Sod Poodles and Tulsa Drillers continue the Texas League Championship series this evening at 7:05 in Tulsa. The best of five series is tied at one game each.

Rangers Beat Rays

(Arlington, TX) — Rougned Odor and Nick Solak homered as the Rangers beat the Rays 6-4 in Arlington. Delino DeShields had two hits and scored a pair of runs for Texas. Luke Farrell picked up the win in relief. The Rangers improved to 42-and-30 at home.

Burke Starts Tonight For Rangers

(Arlington, TX) — Rookie left-hander Brock Burke will start tonight for the Rangers in the opener of a three-game home series with the Oakland A’s. Oakland will counter with 10-game winner Chris Bassitt. Our pregame coverage begins this evening at 6:30 on 710AM and 97.5FM KGNC.

A’s Beat Verlander, Astros

(Houston, TX) — Matt Olson hit a two-run homer and the A’s beat the Astros and Justin Verlander 3-2 in Houston. Verlander struck out 11 over six innings in the loss. Jose Altuve homered in defeat. Houston stranded 10 runners and went 0-for-10 with runners in scoring position. The Astros have lost three straight for the first time since a five-game skid August 13-August 17.

Cole Starts Tonight For Astros

(Kansas City, MO) — Gerrit Cole starts tonight for the Astros as they open a weekend series with the red-hot Royals in Kansas City. Danny Duffy will start for the Royals, who have won their last four series.

Cowboys Meet Redskins In Road Test Sunday

(Washington, DC) — The Cowboys will face the Redskins on Sunday in Washington. The Cowboys kicked off the season with a 35-17 home victory over the Giants. Dak Prescott threw for 405 yards and four touchdowns and had a perfect passer rating in the win.

Texans Host Jags On Sunday

(Houston, TX) — The Texans will face the Jacksonville Jaguars on Sunday in their home opener. Houston fell 30-28 to the Saints on a last-second field goal on Monday night. Deshaun Watson threw for 268 yards and three touchdowns and ran for 40 more yards and a touchdown in the loss.

Bucs Get By Panthers On TNF

(Charlotte, NC) — Payton Barber’s 16-yard touchdown run in the third quarter put the Buccaneers ahead for good in a 20-14 win over the Panthers in Charlotte. Jameis Winston also threw a TD pass to Chris Godwin as Tampa Bay evened its record at 1-and-1. Carolina fell to 0-and-2.

Stars Open Training Camp Today

(Frisco, TX) — The Dallas Stars open training camp today. The Stars will play their initial preseason game on Monday against the defending Stanley Cup champion St. Louis Blues at American Airlines Center. The next night the Stars will play the Minnesota Wild in St. Paul.

FC Dallas Hosts Chicago Fire

(Frisco, TX) — FC Dallas will host the Chicago Fire tomorrow for their first September game after the FIFA International break. Dallas and Portland each have 43 points, while the LA Galaxy has 42 and San Jose checks in with 44 in a battle royal for MLS Western playoff berths.

(Undated) — In  college football action tomorrow, number-13 Texas will be at Rice, TCU will play at Purdue, number-15 Texas A&M hosts Lamar (our pregame coverage begins tomorrow afternoon at 5), North Texas will play at Cal, while Texas Tech plays its first road game at Arizona. SMU hosts Texas State. West Texas A&M will be in Liberty, Missouri to take on William Jewell.

A&M Police Investigating Manziel Jersey Theft

(College Station, TX) — University police at Texas A&M are investigating the theft of a Johnny Manziel [[ man-ZELL ]] jersey. They’ve identified a person of interest who allegedly took the uniform off a mannequin at the team’s Hall of Champions museum. The incident took place on August 26th.
