A crash on Interstate 40 early Saturday morning has left one person in with serious injuries.
The Amarillo Police Department was called to the 3400 block of I-40 at 12:15 am.
Once on scene witnesses told officers that two vehicles had been racing on the interstate westbound and both drivers lost control of their respective vehicles.
A red 2004 Chevy Truck driven by a 19-year-old male, spun out, left the highway, struck several trees, and caught fire.
The driver was taken to a local area hospital with life-threatening injuries.
The other car involved, a small red sedan also lost control and left the highway. But the driver of the vehicle fled the scene before officers arrived.
Alcohol, no seat belt, and speed are all factors in this collision as The Traffic investigation squad of the Amarillo Police Department continue to work on this incident.
The APD would like to remind everyone that not only is racing on our city streets and highways unsafe, it is against the law.
Also, there are other options out there besides getting behind the wheel while intoxicated.
There is never a good reason to chance your life or the life of someone else by driving while intoxicated.
