A fire in Hardeman County as burned 12,000 acres and is 40% contained.
The Amarillo Fire Department is assisting crews from Quanah, Chillicothe, Childress, Hollis, and Crowell, along with the Texas A&M Forest Service providing air assistance in what is being called The Copper Break Fire.
Two Texas Intrastate Fire Mutual Aid System strike teams and an Emergency Medical Task Force are also helping battle the fire that includes five firefighters from the AFD.
Authorities are encouraging residents along and south of US 287 to the west of Quanah including Acme and Goodlett to be prepared for potential evacuation due to the wildfire.
The fire started Friday, August 16, 8 miles south of Quanah along Highway 6. No injuries have been reported.
Two firefighters from the McLean Fire Department were injured while battling a grass fire in Wheeler County on Saturday.
One was sent to Northwest Texas Hospital and has since been released. The other was taken to the burn unit in Lubbock and was released Sunday morning.
the fire was off of Kellerville Road and County Road Z and it started around 1:00 p.m. and was contained around 4:00 p.m. the same day.
The fire truck being used was also burned during the blaze and is no longer in commission.
