This is the third consecutive year that crime in Amarillo has decreased.

Credit is going to the APD for focusing on violent crime the past two years by starting a vigorous and immediate response to shooting incidents.

Statistics include while homicides increased in Amarillo from 15 to in 2021, APD solved 18 of the 21 of them

Property crimes decreased 8 per cent last year, with Chief Martin Birkenfeld saying the Department is looking at new projects to address violent crime by using some cutting-edge technology and a Real-Time Crime Center.
